Privacy Policy

Washcast ("we", "our", "us") provides weather-based laundry guidance. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your choices.

What we collect

Location (device)

  • Used to fetch local weather and sunset times.
  • You can choose "Approximate" or "Precise" in iOS.
  • Location is processed on-device and sent only to get weather; we don't store it on our servers.

Weather data

  • Retrieved from OpenWeather (One Call 3.0, Air Quality, and Geocoding) based on your device location.
  • Weather responses are cached on your device for performance.

Notifications

  • If enabled, we schedule local notifications (morning plan, night plan, rain alerts).
  • We use Apple Push Notification Service (APNs) only to deliver the notification; we don't profile or track you.

App settings & usage

  • Temperature unit, alert toggles, and your saved fabrics are stored locally on your device (and, if you opt-in, in iCloud via Apple backups).
  • We may collect privacy-preserving, aggregate diagnostics (e.g., crashes, basic performance) to improve stability. No advertising or tracking profiles.

How we use data

  • Show current and forecast weather for your location.
  • Calculate drying windows and fabric-specific estimates.
  • Send optional notifications you enable.
  • Improve reliability and fix bugs.

We do not sell your data, track you for ads, or build personal profiles.

Third-party services we use

  • OpenWeather – weather and air-quality data.
  • Apple – location services, APNs for notifications, iCloud/device backups controlled by you.
  • Vercel serverless proxy (our endpoint) – securely forwards weather requests using our API key. Requests aren't logged with personal identifiers, and we don't store your location.

Each provider has its own privacy policy.

Data storage & security

  • Personal preferences and caches live on your device.
  • All network traffic uses HTTPS/TLS.
  • We minimize what we send (only coordinates needed for weather).
  • Our serverless proxy does not persist personal data.

Your choices

  • Location: Allow/deny in Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services. You can select While Using and Precise/Approximate.
  • Notifications: Manage in Settings › Notifications or in Washcast settings.
  • Units & fabrics: Change any time in the app.
  • Delete data: Deleting the app removes local data stored by Washcast.

Children

Washcast isn't intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.

International use

OpenWeather and our server infrastructure may process data outside your country (e.g., EU/US/UK). We use reputable providers and HTTPS to protect data in transit.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in-app. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
